Nature's Playhouse stands against racial injustice. We support the Black community.
We have been taking the time to ensure that each team member is committed to upholding our message. We are reflecting on how we can do better, because we know that we haven’t done enough. Our mission has always been dedicated to keeping our support groups free in an effort to increase inclusivity, we have partnered with advocates in the community for events and fundraising, and we have collectively discussed how to make sure our services are accessible to families of color in our community.
We pledge to do more in the future related to seeking training for our team, funding for programs developed by people of color, increasing targeted advocacy for the perinatal health for women of color, and deeply welcome feedback from our Black community members.
We also recognize racism as a public health crisis. We know the CDC data confirms Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, and twice as likely compared to white women, to lose an infant to premature death. We know that according to the NIH, Black mothers are several times more likely to suffer from Postpartum Depression but less likely to receive treatment and follow-up. These statistics are heartbreaking, and it is our responsibility to make change.
We are taking necessary steps toward creating actionable paths as we look forward. We promise to collectively fight for and address the gaps in education, outreach, training, and access to funding and direct services, to confront systemic racism that exists. Along with our many community partners, we are dedicated to healing, equality, and justice, for all people of color.
