Baby Sign Language

Get ready to set your daily routine to music while promoting language development, learning and fun! Sign and Play classes teach parents and caregivers how to use American Sign Language vocabulary to enhance communication with their little ones, promote bonding, boost vocabulary and more! You'll learn the most useful starter signs including those for food, drink, pets, family, clothing, transportation, manners and bedtime. Each week will also feature a Signing Tip, in which we will discuss the benefits of using ASL with babies and toddlers.

Book Club

Join us monthly for Nature’s Playhouse nonfiction book discussion. Each month we will focus on a different book exploring parenting, wellness, and personal growth. Check the schedule of books below, read the book for the month that you’re interested in, or come every month. Bring an open mind to listen and consider the perspectives of others while sharing your own thoughts to enrich the group. Kids are welcome to play while we discuss the book. Visit your local bookstore, get the audiobook, or check out a copy at the library and we’ll see you soon!

(No book discussion group over the summer)

Infant Massage

Infant massage has benefits for parents and their babies. It supports bonding and attachment by allowing for quiet, uninterrupted time where parents are also able to work on reading their babies cues and respecting what they are communicating to them. Research shows that it decreases postpartum depression and it is also known to extend babies sleep-which is why many parents include it in their bedtime routine.

CPR

American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR is intended for anyone who wants to learn CPR but does not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. This course is ideal for community groups, parents, grandparents, caregivers, schools and students, and others interested in learning how to save a life.

As an instructor-led course, Family & Friends CPR extends the availability of and access to training, so that more people can learn CPR and use their skills to act quickly in an emergency. Skills are taught by using the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows participants to practice on a CPR training manikin while observing a demonstration of the skills in the course video. The course is approximately 2 hours in length.

COURSE COVERS:

  • Adult Hands-Only CPR and AED

  • Child CPR and AED

  • Mild and Severe Airway Block: How to Help a Choking Adult/Child

  • Infant CPR

  • Mild and Severe Airway Block: How to Help a Choking Infant

Parenting Consultations

The toddler and preschool years of a child's development are both joyful and challenging years for parents. Young children's behavior - which can be out-of-bounds and overwhelming - can be hard to make sense of. Addressing the behavior in a developmentally and respectful way, while holding the limits we've set, is not intuitive for most parents. Our credentialed consultants offer guidance to help parents who feel stuck. Common challenge areas include setting limits; making daily transitions easier; determining appropriate expectations for potty training, mealtime, bath time, bedtime, playtime; how to deal with your child's big emotions; how to talk to children about challenging topics; how to deal with a big change in the family; and more.  Consultants also specialize in state licensing regulations, early childhood program development, and workforce development for early childhood education
